Wedding Budget Tips

Money is a touchy subject, no doubt about it. It is even more sensitive when it comes to your wedding, the biggest event of your life. Some people say that you shouldn’t think of getting married until you have saved tens of thousands in your account. If we all listened to that, then wedding vendors will all be broke and couples will be happily co-habitating! :)

While planning a wedding can be an expensive affair, it does not have to break the bank as what many think. Peek below for some wedding budget tips!

Be Realistic

Be realistic upfront about the amount of money you and your fiance have and how much you are willing to spend on your wedding. While it will be nice to have an over-the-top wedding with designer gowns, brass bands and personalised champagne flutes, be realistic about your costs.

At the end of the day, it will just be another wedding in your guests’ memories.

Type of Wedding

Discuss with your fiance and decide the type of wedding you would both like and are both willing to spend on. A wedding in a castle ala Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ wedding party would be terribly romantic but budget breaking! So would a wedding on a yacht or a cruise.

Small, intimate, wild, big party…there are lots of wedding options out there and definitely one that will fit into the budget you have in mind.

Wedding Research

I can’t begin to stress the importance of researching.

Join local bridal forums. The wonderful girls on the forum often have fantastic recommendations based on their own experiences. Often, they too are working around a budget so you can be assured of finding some good vendors that will fit right into your budget. Or they might be selling some new or gently worn or used items which you can buy for a lot less!

Don’t Succumb

While every couple hopes their wedding will be the only one in their lifetime, do not fall for the “Once in a Lifetime” line. This little line is extremely powerful and has often resulted in brides-to-be spending far more than their budget simply because it is once in a lifetime.

Vendors know this and milk this line for all its worth to convince their clients to pay a thousand more for a wedding dress or a few hundred more for their invitations. Just remember that the little extras you have forked out for this “Once in a Lifetime” occasion all add up and will really break your budget.

I have shared this tips to help you get started in the preliminary planning stage of your wedding. Do look out for more budget tips along the way.

You too can plan the wedding of your dreams without breaking your bank! :)
