Do we want a bridal studio package?
This is one question some couples have wrestled with especially after hearing some horror stories their friends have had to endure negotiating with some studios who cheat couples of their money or charge lots of money for additional add-ons.
If you have decided on signing up with a bridal studio, do read here for some tips to help you choose the right studio. However, if you would like to plan your own photoshoot, read on for the benefits you can gain in doing so!
Choosing Your Own Photographer
Sometimes you are not allowed to choose the best photographers when you sign up with a bridal studio or some may even charge you extra for their top photographers. Going DIY on your pre-wedding photoshoot allows you to choose your own freelance photographer to suit your own personal style. There are lots of fantastic and highly experienced freelance wedding photographers out there such as Louis Pang and Zung from Photoz who take breath-taking photos.
Getting All Soft Copies
A bridal studio package often comes with a limited number of poses which you can choose your pre-wedding photographs from. Any additional photographs you add on to your package often comes with a high price tag attached to it which can go into the thousands just for 10 photos. Doing your own pre-wedding photoshoot often means that your freelance photographer will return all soft copies for you to choose which you might want to make an album or photo montage out of.
Wedding Gown
A friend once advised that it was more meaningful when the wedding gown worn for the photoshoot is the same gown worn during the wedding instead of 10 different types of wedding gowns. While this may not be necessarily be your same view, organising your own pre-wedding photoshoot means you can design your own dream gown to be captured in that shoot. Ready made gowns provided by bridal studios sometimes don’t fit too well as they are designed for brides of all shapes and sizes. Tailoring your own gown usually ensures the gown fits you perfectly and flatters your best assets which is perfect when preserved in your pre-wedding photography session. Do be careful if you are intending to take your pre-wedding shoot in a dirty or outdoor area.
Design Your Own Album and Frames
Bridal studios often include a huge framed photograph in their package for the couple to display in their room. However, some brides have found that photograph not suitable several years down the road as the enhanced photographs no longer have much resemblence to their real selves. With a freelance photographer, you can choose to design your own albums in smaller sizes for ease of handling and storing. If you are creative, you can develop a beautiful album without the funny English wordings which some bridal studios insist on including!
If you are considering on planning your own photoshoot, do ensure you have enough time to plan for it and research everything you need. It takes time to find good deals and to engage good photographers.
From a budget perspective, planning your own photoshoot may not necessarily work out cheaper than a bridal studio package. However, you can be assured that you will have the benefit of getting exactly what you want in your photographs.

Yet another good article! If you’re thinking of going freelance, the two photographers i’d recommend would be Louis Loo (http://deviews.wordpress.com/) and Robin Ng (http://www.robinng.com/blog/). These are two of the better photogs out there who do not charge an arm and a leg yet possess great artistic flair in their works.
