Every bride wishes to look beautiful for her wedding day. It is, after all, one of the biggest days in her life and all eyes will be on her as she walks down the aisle or into her wedding reception. This is where the wedding make up artist has the golden opportunity to showcase their skills with their magic makeup brushes, to turn the plainest Janes into the most glamorous and radiant bride.
Most girls are comfortable doing their own make up and unfortunately most Malaysian women tend not to make up. However, it is important to remember that bridal make up is very different from everyday make up and it is essential to find a professional make up artist that you are comfortable with and whom you can absolutely trust to bring out the best in you. Some girls try to save on their make up artists only to regret it when their electric blue eyeshadow stands out in all their wedding photographs or they end up looking like a bruised panda with dark smudges all over their eyes!
The makeup used is also equally important especially if you have sensitive skin. Some inexperienced makeup artists use cheap China made cosmetics which may contain harsh chemicals as good cosmetics are expensive. Zamri Zainol is a popular name in the make up industry, having built an excellent portfolio with his magical skills in making women beautiful. Hailing from a background in Fashion Design, he decided to venture into make up simply because he loves making women beautiful and confident. Hurrah for us lucky women! 
With skills he has honed from international make up artists such as Frank Ordano and Fred Farrugia, Zamri does a lot of work for magazine photoshoots with magazines such as Female, Cleo, Her World and Seventeen in addition to working with all kinds of local celebrities such as Lina Teoh and popular songbird, Camelia. In a recent interview, he was kind enough to share something about himself and some special make up tips from his many years of experience with Lancome.
What inspired you to go into make up and hair styling?
What inspired me to pursue makeup was because I like to make women beautiful and make them feel beautiful and confident.
How can makeup help a bride look radiant on her wedding day?
I have learnt a lot of great makeup techniques from Lancôme. I have also learnt that less is more. One of the great techniques I have learnt is the Lancôme Fusion Touch (the Lancôme method of applying foundation). Apply foundation to face by massaging onto skin. Always start from the inside moving outwardly, without lifting your hand, so that the product penetrates the skin. Even out on forehead. Finish with sides of the nose and chin. Makeup must reveal the skin’s true tone. With this technique, makeup enhances skin without concealing it; the skin texture is transparent for a sensuous, vibrant effect.
Is good skincare or good makeup important for the Malaysian bride?
From what I observe, Malaysian women don’t often apply makeup on a daily basis. They feel that they should rely solely on skincare to achieve true beauty. That may be true but makeup can also be used to enhance whatever great features you already have. I think that each Malaysian woman should own at least the following 4 items: powder, mascara, lipgloss and an eyebrow pencil.

What would you advise brides-to-be to look for in finding a good makeup artist for their special day?
It is important to hire a makeup artist that understands you and is patient enough to understand your theme, ideas and inspiration. They have to be open minded as well as advice you on achieving the look that you want.
How do you think wedding make up should look? Dramatic or natural?
This depends on brides individual taste but for morning – it should be natural and translucent. For reception, it depends on the individual and the location. For example, if you are having your reception at the beach at night, you would want a fresh and simple makeup look. On the other hand, if you are holding it at a grand ballroom, you might want a darker and more seductive look. This really depends on the individual bride and therefore the makeup artist and the bride have to establish a good working relationship in order to achieved the desired look.

What is your best advise for a bride-to-be to look beautiful on her wedding day?
The best advice for the bride on the wedding day is to sleep early the night before, drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep the skin hydrated, be sure to apply body lotion for smooth skin and hands, wear a fragrance you love. When you apply lipstick, take a tissue after the first application to dab off then reapply with another layer and a gloss for a lasting effect.
