Wedding dress hunting is a stressful enough process when you can’t find a design that flatters you. Most brides do not come in the perfect Size 10 that many wedding dress designers design for and it can be hard to find a flattering wedding gown if you are a plus-size bride. So if you are big-boned or have womanly curves, don’t feel ashamed and diet like crazy before your wedding. Instead, read below for tips on how you can select your plus size wedding gown!
Choose A Slimming Wedding Gown Design
Wedding gowns come in all styles today but one of the most flattering designs for all body shapes is the A-line skirt. If wide hips or thick thighs are your problem area, the A-line skirt hides these flaws beautifully to give you a streamlined and slimming look. Avoid mermaid skirts, trumpet skirts or sheath wedding gowns if you do not wish to draw attention to your thighs and hips.

Wedding Dress Tip: A small A-line skirt may look better on a plus-sized bride for a slimming effect. Wide A-lines may create the opposite effect as it adds width.
Avoid Heavy Gown Embellishments
Do be careful when choosing a gown with many embellishments and pay attention to where these designs are placed. A large beaded pattern placed on the wrong place might draw unwanted attention to your flaws. Do try to select designs that are suitable for your size. Too small designs might be too dainty for a plus sized bride while too large designs would overwhelm a bigger figure.
Wedding Dress Tip: Lines of shiny beads trailing down your wedding skirt at suitable places will create a slimming effect.
Cover Large Arms With Jackets
Some plus sized brides may find tube wedding gowns less suitable as they may be conscious about their arms. This can be easily solved with a beautiful lace jacket or a pretty shawl around the shoulders to partially hide large arms whilst providing flexibility to move. Lace jackets adds elegance and details to an otherwise plain wedding gown and allows you to have your dream strapless wedding gown!

Wedding Dress Tip: If making your own gown, consider asking your designer to incorporate the shawl into the gown for a unique look.
Empire Line Wedding Gowns Are Perfect For Plus Sized Brides
Empire line wedding gowns are yet another flattering shape plus size brides will love. One wonderful benefit of being plus sized is having a nice and full bodice and the empire wedding gown flatters that beautifully by accentuating the bodice area before falling to the floor in clean lines which hide a multitude of flaws.

Wedding Dress Tip: Empire style wedding gowns work best in soft flowing fabrics such as chiffon or organza. Ensure you have a good underlay under your gown to avoid the gown clinging to unwanted bumps.
Every bride wishes to look beautiful on her wedding day and with these tips for choosing your wedding gown, plus sized brides too can have the wedding gown of their dreams. Also consider wearing a corset underneath your gown to achieve a slimmer silhouette and a smaller waist.

I have a much bigger bottom and thighs than I do actual waist line. My waist and rib cage area are the smallest part of my body. I have the waist frame of a much smaller woman, however, I am considered plus size because of the size pants I wear. What style dress do you suggest for me? How can I tell what size dress I wear when I am just messuring my upper body and not my hips and thighs.
Hi Kimberly – You might want to try the classic A-line or princess/ballgown style. It is perfect for just about any body shape and the full skirt hides any flaws you might want to conceal at your bottom whilst accentuating your small waist. Give it a try and see if you like how you look!
