Hi Rebecca – Congratulations! If you are getting married in Ireland then you can follow what the Malaysian embassy has advised. But if you want to be on the safe side, then get a guardian to approve the marriage so it will be recognised udner both laws.

I’m a Malaysian citizen! I’m about to get married soon! But over here in Malaysia u have to be over the age of 21, I am 20 years old! I’m living in ireland, Europe. I don’t have a father & My mother is in Ireland! Please inform me on how to go abouts this situation! I have already asked the Malaysia embassy in Dublin, ireland , and they told me that as long as u r over 18, u r considered an adult, & don’t need a guardian at the marriage registration office!

Hi Alex – I don’t think the JPN people can do registration in a private ceremony. What you need to find is a private registrar to perform the solemnization for you.

May i know the procedures to get the JPN people to hold the ceremony at hotels (private ceremony)?
And any idea what is the cost of it?

Hi Cindy, sorry I saw your comment late…it ended up in my Spam box!

Under special exemptions, the registration can be done within 7 days of application and comes with a fee of RM100 upon approval. Your spouse needs to have been in Malaysia for at least 7 days and I believe it can only be done in certain JPN centres – do check with JPN at http://www.jpn.gov.my before you submit your application.

As a Malaysian, you do not need your single status letter. Only the foreign spouse is required to produce one. Hope this help

One of my witness did not show up on our ROM day. The name was crossed out, as we got somebody else to witness. Is the certificate valid?

Hi Elle,

Can I apply for an exemption license for the 21-day minimum period if I am marrying a foreigner? With the exemption license, how long more we need to wait before we can register? We are both working abroad and would like to complete the registration at the shortest time possible.

As a Malaysian, do I need to obtain the single status letter or I can just check it from JPN when I submit the application and their system will reflect my marital status?
