I had a Mamma Mia overdose over the weekend with the soundtrack of the Mamma Mia movie. Pierce Brosnan looks good but gosh…he really cannot hold a tune! 
Set in the beautiful island of Greece, it was only fitting that Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) in Mamma Mia had a simple and vintage wedding gown to get married in. I liked her preparation just before her wedding. She spent special mother and daughter time with her mom (Meryl Streep) to paint their nails and her mom helped her dress with nothing much else but flowers threaded through her long hair as her wedding hairdo.
No fancy meringue gowns, no 2-inch thick makeup and no painful wedding hairdos with a thousand pins. Just fresh-faced beauty and quality time with the ones you love before you start that new chapter in your life.

Designed by Ann Roth, Academy Award winning costume designer, Sophie’s wedding dress was a cream empire style layered design which was softened with layers of lace. A short dress, it ends just at her ankles and is decorated with pretty little blue decorations down one side for something different from the usual white wedding dresses.
Personally, I thought the bridal headpiece she wore did not really suit her and in some scenes, the dress tended to bunch up a little, making her look a little plump. The empire style cut should suit most brides but might have the danger of making brides look a little rounded if not well-designed.
Nevertheless, the floaty effect makes it a beautiful dress for a beach or island wedding with a fabulous vintage feel!
