Something old, something new,
Something borrowed, something blue,
And a silver sixpence in her shoe!
Brides often always think of buying new things for their wedding and wearing something borrowed never quite crosses their minds. After all, it is the biggest party of your life and the greatest excuse to go shopping!
But in the third installment of our wedding rhyme, learn why something borrowed can add some meaning to your wedding!
Wedding Tradition For Something Borrowed
Just like something old, something borrowed is often from someone who has had a happy and loving marriage. Wearing or carrying something borrowed on your wedding day symbolises both your love for the person you borrowed the item from and also borrowing a little of their happiness into your own marriage!
Again, it is similar to the Chinese custom of requesting a happily married couple to make the marriage bed in the hope that some of their marriage happiness will rub off onto the newlyweds.

Incorporating Something Borrowed Into Your Wedding
It is really easy to incorporate something borrowed into your wedding and you’ll find friends and family who will be more than happy to lend you personal and special items.
Sometimes some of the most traditional things such as your mother’s wedding gown (if you can wear it!) or her veil can be the most memorable item.

Otherwise, some other great things you can borrow could be your grandmother’s or mother’s wedding ring to be worn with your own.

Jewelry your mother, grandmother or sister wore at their own wedding. Or a special meaningful piece of jewelry from your best friend.

Some brides opt to carry a unique bouquet holder fashioned out from the lace from their grandmother’s wedding gown or a heirloom brooch pinned to their bouquet as a charm.

It can be just about anything and could even be as unique as borrowing your in-laws home to have your wedding in! Just be sure to take good care of the borrowed items during your wedding and to return it in the same condition you borrowed it in.
Finally, look out for the last little bit that completes this unique wedding tradition next week!
With Love,
Elle
