Grooms, Get Involved With Planning Your Wedding!

by Elle on November 23, 2009

At a recent wedding I attended, I laughed when I heard the emcee say the groom was very involved in the planning of the wedding. Often, grooms tend to take the back seat in a wedding, preferring to leave most of the planning and stress to their bridezillas! Well, grooms, remember that a wedding is about the both of you and while you might find yourself perplexed at how the gorgeous girl you proposed to has now turned into a screaming bridezilla, trust me, your brides will welcome every little bit of help you can extend! What can you do? Lots! Read on below for how you can help make your wedding planning a joint success!

Get Involved!

Yes, get involved. Don’t just sit by the sidelines and shrug everytime she asks you something. Just because your bride is an organized and efficient person with Excel spreadsheets and checklists miles long, it doesn’t mean you should leave all the planning to her. You can let her take the lead but offer to pitch in and help wherever you can, even if it means just carrying heavy boxes of invitations!

Help With Guest Lists and Wedding Invitations

It is your wedding as much as hers so don’t stress her out further by leaving everything to her. She may not know who you want to invite or avoid so start preparing your guest lists early too. Sit with her to decide wedding invitations and if you’re DIY-ing wedding invites, help her out and she’ll fully appreciate it! My DH was a great source of help when we DIY-ed our wedding invitations and spent the night sitting up with me tying tiny little gold ribbons to be stuck on them. That was when I knew he was for keeps! :)

Choosing Wedding Vendors

Spend time choosing your wedding vendors together. Don’t just leave it all to her then complain why the music isn’t your taste or why you don’t like the photographer she has chosen. During our wedding preparation, we interviewed all our photographers together…all 20 of them! And through that we actually learnt more about each other’s likes, dislikes and what we thought was important.

Choosing Your Wedding Photographer

The wedding planning process can be a stressful journey or one of discovery and learning for you both. Just as marriage is a journey together, so is your wedding so instead of cringing away and leaving everything to your bridezilla, grooms, be involved. She’ll love you for it.

With Love,
Elle
